Aviation Service Steel Hangar

The scope of work for this project is the structural analysis and design of an aircraft maintenance facility located in Abu Dhabi Airport, UAE. The concrete building, composed of a basement, ground floor and 2 upper stories, will be separated into 3 distinct structures in order to take into account the shrinkage and temperature effects straining the concrete slab with a span exceeding 100 meters.

Advance Design Award | Project Aviation Service Steel Hangar

The scope of work for this project is the structural analysis and design of an aircraft maintenance facility located in Abu Dhabi Airport, UAE. The facility is composed of a steel hangar in addition to an L-shaped concrete service building.

The concrete building, composed of a basement, ground floor and 2 upper stories, will be separated into 3 distinct structures in order to take into account the shrinkage and temperature effects straining the concrete slab with a span exceeding 100 meters.

The steel hangar has a free span of about 80 meters, with 3 main truss frames supporting the roof.

Both the steel hangar and the concrete structures will be studied and designed to withstand various loads and their effects, including wind loads, gravity loads, shrinkage effects, seismic loads, and temperature effects.

User benefits:

In addition to its BIM advanced features, Advance Design was quite beneficial regarding the geometrical modeling process, as well as the structural analysis and design.

  • The subsystems feature allows for a simple and efficient selection method, visualizing similar elements or floor levels when used properly.
  • Easily applying loads: The seismic and wind load generation is helpful and relatively swift, with its automatic Building Code implementation. It allows for a quick definition with a minimum effort from the user who only has to provide the needed seismic parameters.
  • Obtaining results with a visually appealing interface (color maps, animation…), as well as interaction diagrams or stress diagrams for elements.
  • We were also able to put into good use the detailed element verification feature, which offered us the option to optimize the elements’ cross section.
  • Generating reinforcement detailing of the concrete elements, with ready-for-execution drawings.
  • Generating reinforcement schedule, as well as cost estimation for the project, material-wise, if it was to be executed.
  • Generating a detailed, easy to follow, code-based calculation report.

During this project, Advance Design offered us a valuable and profitable experience, with simple yet intelligent and futuristic constituents.
